Since December 2011, we have had the privilege of working with Whistler Blackcomb, North America’s #1 ski resort, on the Whistler Blackcomb Renaissance Project – the largest and most exciting investment in Whistler Blackcomb’s history.
Our market research team did an extensive study on the existing and potential demographics on Whistler’s visitor groups. Once the analysis was complete, we moved through the conceptual design and schematic design phases. The outcome of the design was The Watershed: a year-round indoor adventure centre focused on water-based play and the Blackcomb Adventure Park. The Watershed will be a 163,000 square foot facility featuring activities such as:
Waterslides (various types including new racing slides)
The latest deep water surf simulator technology
Cliff jumping and rock climbing experiences
Hot and cold pools
Children’s entertainment centre
Food & beverage facilities and retail amenities
Many other weather-independent activities
The Blackcomb Adventure Park, one of the first phases of the Whistler Blackcomb Renaissance project, will be a year round outdoor adventure area at the base of Blackcomb mountain that will feature activities such as:
Electric ATV’s and snowmobiles
Snow tubing park
Adventure ropes course
These attractions will not only bring in a new demographic not yet seen in the resort, but will also extend existing visitor stays in the resort, which in turn will increase spend per visit.
We are currently in the approvals stage of the $70 million development and once approvals are in place, we are slated to project manage the development through to completion and assist with the pre-opening of the attractions.
With creating such a tremendously unique concept and design for a ski resort, we are now being approached by other ski resorts to carry out similar work elsewhere in North America, which is very exciting.
